Intergovernmental Meeting between Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government and Government of the Northwest Territories

Yellowknife, NT (April 1, 2026) – Premier R.J. Simpson, Deputy Premier Caroline Wawzonek, Minister Caitlin Cleveland, Minister Lucy Kuptana, Minister Jay Macdonald, Minister Vince McKay, and Minister Lesa Semmler met with the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government Ɂekw’ahtı̨dǝ́Danny Gaudet, Délı̨nę K’aowǝdóKǝ members Leonard Kenny, Jonas Modeste, Chris Yukon, Gina Dolphus, Dora Blondin and Marion Mackeinzo, Ɂǫhda K’áowǝ Kǝ, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest:

⦁ Commitment to working together to advance shared priorities with the Government of Canada that support the long-term economic development, connectivity, and prosperity of Délı̨nę, the Sahtu region, and the NWT;

⦁ Infrastructure challenges including affordability, Délı̨nę’s interest in expanding the local runway, access to gravel, winter road safety and planning around power generation capacity;

⦁ Collaboration on housing and skills training;

⦁ Coordination around the early learning and child care system that respects the DGG’s status as a self-governing Indigenous government exercising its authority in this area; and

⦁ Work to address health and wellness in Délı̨nę.

The two governments continue to work collaboratively to address key issues impacting Délı̨nę residents.

⦁ The Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding recognizes the importance of the government-to-government relationship between the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government and the Government of the Northwest Territories.

⦁ The agreement commits both governments to meet at least once per year.

⦁ The Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding between the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government and the Government of the Northwest Territories was signed in June 2019 for a four-year term and was renewed for a four-year term in November 2023.
