Press Release
February 20, 2026
The Government of Nunavut is seeking 10 individuals to support an important Inuktitut and Inuinnaqtun language recording project. This project will contribute to the development of an Inuktut text‑to‑speech language model as part of the Inuktuurutit – Promoting Inuktut Through Technology Project.
Selected participants will read Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun scripts into a recording device in a designated sound room in Iqaluit. Participants’ voices will not be used in the public version of the language model – it will only be used internally to train the model.
Participants may work up to 65 hours and will be compensated at $75 per hour.
To qualify, candidates must first pass a short reading test.
Recording sessions must be completed in person in Iqaluit.
The sound recording room will be available daily, Monday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. ET, and all technical support will be provided on site.
All recordings must be completed by March 31, 2026.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Karris Gillis (KGillis@gov.nu.ca) to provide your availability.
