City council schedules event to correspond with Inuit Circumpolar Council general assembly
Iqaluit city councillors will wait until summer to raise the Greenland flag in solidarity with Inuit in the region who experienced threats over the past year from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Municipal leaders voted Jan. 29 to raise the flag, but eagle-eyed Iqaluit residents might have noticed it still is not flying outside city hall.
“Council has determined that it will hold off on flying the flag until the [Inuit Circumpolar Council] general assembly,” said city spokesperson Geoffrey Byrne in an email Monday.
