Knowledge Exchange Meetup: Strategic Grant Writing

KEM (Knowledge Exchange Meetup) has been developed to provide interactive, participatory and experiential learning opportunities to young leaders and allies who are interested in building skills and knowledge of organizational development and management. Through a series of monthly KEMs, young leaders and allies will be able to brainstorm, exchange/share resources, learn how to use practical tools, and expand networks. KEM is an opportunity to build cross-sector alliance and skilful knowledge for grassroots youth-led initiatives.

Vision & Strategy Series 1. Strategic Grant Writing: Communicating Vision
Through this KEM, attendees will be able to:
• Understand the multi-faceted context in which grant proposals are written & reviewed
• Clearly express your vision while considering funders’ perspective & your initiative’s needs
• Have practical strategies & tools for successful grant writing

Guest Speaker: Rusty Soluleymanov, Researcher, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto
Rusty is a researcher, and Ph. D candidate at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto. With his strong commitment to anti-oppressive practice, diversity and social justice, Rusty has worked and volunteered in many areas, including HIV/AIDS community-based research, political economy of LGBTQ health, harm reduction policy, sexual health promotion, employment initiatives for people living with HIV, and the use of emerging technologies in HIV prevention. Rusty has successfully secured Canadian Institutes for Health Research Grant for his doctoral research project that is partnered with several community-based organizations. Rusty will share his journey of grant writing to provide young leaders with practical strategies and tools.
