Landslide and Train Derailment – Mile 80 on the Skeena, In Lax Kw’alaams Territory

Lax Kw’alaams Lands, Resources and Stewardship have been notified by CN Rail of a landslide at Mile 80 on the Skeena. This landslide has caused a train derailment.

North Pacific Cannery is located 2 track miles to the west of the slide.

Some cars have derailed, however no dangerous goods, no leaks, and no injuries have been reported.

Landside activity is continuing. The Lands, Resources and Stewardship department wishes to notify Lax Kw’alaams members and residents who are in the area of the ongoing risk of landslide. The active site of the landslide poises a safety risk for those that get too close.
