Launch of the 18th edition of the First Nations Education Council Inter-school Games

Press Release

Wendake, May 20, 2026 – The First Nations Education Council (FNEC) is proud to announce the 18th edition of its Inter-school Games, which will take place from May 21 to 24, 2026, at Université Laval’s sports and physical education pavilion (PEPS), in Quebec City.

This major sporting event will bring together approximately 1200 young athletes, coaches and chaperones, divided between 34 delegations representing 25 First Nations communities (Abenakis, Anishinabeg, Atikamekw, Ilnu/Innu, Kanien’kehà:ka, Mi’gmaq and Wendat).

Over four days, the participants will compete in six disciplines, ranging from track and field, to basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, as well as trail runs and the popular Ancestors Challenge, an obstacle course that combines strength, agility and endurance.

Beyond the sports performances, the FNEC Inter-school games provide a unique human and cultural experience for everyone. The games promote the creation of links between communities and allow participants to discover the vibrant atmosphere of a university campus. Under the theme of pride and excellence, the Inter-school games are a source of motivation for young athletes throughout the year.

This event relies on the essential support of numerous partners and sponsors, including the New Pathways Foundation, the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission, Indigenous Services Canada, the Quebec Minster of Health and Social Services, the Breakfast Club of Canada, and Sport’Aide.
