Leaders look at church’s role in reconciliation – Regina Leader-Post

Noel Starblanket spent 11 years in a residential school and the next 35 years trying to recover.

“I feel that I’ve largely done that, but it was not without hard work and a lot of pain,” he said.

On Thursday night, Starblanket joined three other community leaders at the University of Regina for a panel discussion on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s final report, which was released June 2. The session, called “Working toward reconciliation: Church, faith, survivors and the TRC,” was sponsored by the Aboriginal Students’ Centre and focused on eight of the report’s 94 recommendations.

Throughout the evening, attendees were encouraged to consider what their role is in reconciliation.
