Mactaquac Hatchery Worker

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the AFS Coordinator and Mactaquac Fish Hatchery Manager, the successful candidate will work in all aspects of AFS.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Able to lift at least 60 pounds
    • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather (including rain and heat under 40°C)
    • Must pass a drug test & random drug test
    • Must provide clean criminal record check
    • Be punctual, respectful, and maintain a safe, healthy work environment
    • First Aid/CPR certification (not required but often desirable for field roles)
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
    • Comfortable with basic record-keeping and data entry

Job Duties:

Fish hatchery and aquaculture support

    • Hand feeding fish and filling automatic feeders
    • Egg and fry picking (seasonal)
    • Fish handling techniques (e.g., pond seining, dip netting, “booting” fish, tub transfers)
    • Assisting with spawning and egg care
    • Following all biosecurity protocols strictly

Cleaning and maintenance

    • Pressure washing, hand scrubbing of incubation trays
    • Cleaning ponds and maintaining equipment
    • Setting up pond treatments (e.g., mixing/moving salt, using pumps)
    • Facility maintenance (e.g., jump screen repairs, mending nets)

Terms of employment:

    • 32 hours per week
    • Start Date: August 11, 2025 until approximately November 2025
    • $18.50 per hour
    • Work location: Mactaquac Fish Hatchery
