Press Release
SUMMARY
The purpose of this letter is to provide information regarding the Canadian Coast Guard’s plan to do our annual maintenance and refueling of our remote MCTS sites in the areas of Central and North Coast of BC.
BACKGROUND
The CCG has a network of mountain top remote sites that provide radio communication and radar services for mariners in Canadian waters. These sites typically have an aluminum building, communications tower and helipad at each site. Due to the remoteness of these sites, they are self-powered with diesel engines. CCG does annual refueling trips and bi-annual preventative maintenance trips to these sites.
We will be in the areas of Central and North Coast with a tug and barge to deliver fuel and provide a slinging platform for CCG crews from May 1st to August 1st, 2025. The tug and barge will be “ramped down” at various staging areas near each MCTS site. The purpose of this letter is to advise First Nations that we will be working in these areas and to determine the best ramped down locations. This will be to ensure we are not working near any culturally significant locations. Please see list of MCTS site locations and map below.
