Mattawa lands former Grandview property – The Chronicle Journal

Moving to Thunder Bay from Eabametoong First Nation at 17 years old was a culture shock for Danielle Yellowhead.

“I didn’t really know what to expect coming into Thunder Bay,” she said. “It was a new world to me coming from the reserve.”

Now 24 years old and a graduate of not only the Matawa Learning Centre, but Confederation College’s police foundations program, Yellowhead works security in Thunder Bay.

And she was in attendance at the ceremony held Tuesday at the former Grandview Lodge as Matawa First Nations Management and the City of Thunder Bay signed a letter of intent to grant the former long-term care facility to Matawa for use as a student education and care centre.
