Media Advisory: Premier Furey to Speak at Unveiling Ceremony for Baetha in Botwood

The Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will bring remarks at an unveiling ceremony taking place Monday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at Blueberry Hill, Kings Road, Botwood.

The Premier will be joined by the Honourable Scott Reid, Minister Responsible for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation, and the Honourable Derek Bennett, Speaker of the House of Assembly.

Baetha (Going Home), features the unveiling of a bronze sculpture of a Beothuk woman, Demasduit, her husband, Nonosabasut, and their infant child. The ceremony commemorates the 200th anniversary of the death of Demasduit. It is open to the public.

Sept. 30 is observed as a Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Canada.
