The New Southern Plains Métis Local #160 hosted its inaugural Métis Fall Festival at Wakamow Valley’s Skating Oval on October 3, offering free cultural programming that included traditional games, live music, and educational activities.
Organizers coordinated the event for months, setting up a 40-by-60-foot tent and multiple activity stations to showcase Métis heritage through hands-on experiences.
“Today we are hosting what we’re hoping is the first annual Métis Fall Festival down at Wakamow Skating Oval,” said Darby Fiddler, one of the organizers. “We’ve been working with the New Southern Plains Métis Local 160. We’ve got awesome vendors, we’ve got live music, we’ve got a strongman competition, we’ve got axe throwing, we’ve got mini donuts, and we’ve got a lot of fun happening.”
