Métis Families Gather for a Weekend of Culture and Celebration at Family Rendezvous

Press Release

January 23, 2026

Métis families from across Ontario gathered for the annual MNO Family Rendezvous at Deerhurst Resort from November 27–30, 2025—an opportunity to celebrate culture, community, and one another as the holiday season approached.

Hosted by the MNO Events team, with support from programs and services across our Métis government, this year’s Rendezvous welcomed more than 250 citizens for a weekend of workshops, storytelling, land-based activities, and shared celebration.

Families arrived Thursday evening to a warm welcome, community buffet, and registration, setting the tone for a complete and vibrant weekend ahead.

Friday began with breakfast and an Opening Ceremony led by members of the PCMNO, Senators, and Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) staff. Leadership reflected on the importance of gathering as Métis families, honouring shared histories, and strengthening the relationships that ground the Nation.

Over Friday and Saturday, citizens participated in rotating workshops designed to encourage creativity, family bonding, and cultural learning. Highlights included Beading 101, Family Command Centre, a Family Memory Board workshop, festive Métis crafts, fireside storytelling, a guided forest walk, and the preparation of holiday packages for Métis Elders and Seniors. A Self-Care Room was also available throughout the weekend.

A well-attended drop-in session with the Self-Government and members of the Provisional Council of the MNO (PCMNO) provided families with an opportunity to learn more about the future of Métis governance in Ontario and to ask questions about the path ahead.

Both afternoons included Exploration Time, allowing families to enjoy Deerhurst’s indoor and outdoor activities—from swimming and skating to hiking and arcade games—making it one of the most cherished aspects of Rendezvous.

Friday evening brought a cozy Family Holiday Movie Night, while Saturday concluded with a lively Christmas Kitchen Party filled with music, dancing, laughter, and community joy.

The weekend ended with a closing ceremony led by Provincial Secretary Mitch Case and President Margaret Froh, acknowledging the work of MNO staff—particularly the Education and Training, Community Wellness, and Métis Family Wellbeing teams—and all staff who helped make the gathering possible.

Maarsii to everyone who joined us. We look forward to welcoming families again next year.
