Press Release
November 18, 2025 – Heartland of the Métis and Treaty 6 Territory, Saskatoon, SK – Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) acknowledges the passage of the 2025 Federal Budget and welcomes several targeted investments that will benefit Indigenous peoples across the country. However, MN–S is also raising strong concerns regarding reductions and delays in key areas that directly affect the well-being of Métis families, communities, and self-government commitments.
What the 2025 federal budget includes for Métis communities:
⦁ $2.8 billion for Urban, Rural, and Northern Indigenous Housing Strategy
⦁ The Canada Infrastructure Bank’s investments increase to $3 billion
⦁ $10 billion in support for Indigenous involvement in major projects (Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program)
“While we are encouraged to see investments that align with our priorities, such as infrastructure and housing, this budget also contains cuts that will have real and lasting consequences for Métis citizens,” said MN–S President Glen McCallum. “We recognize the positive steps, but we cannot overlook the fact that there is no new distinctions-based funding for health and language initiatives that are also priorities for this MN–S government.”
MN–S remains committed to working with federal partners to maximize the positive elements of Budget 2025 while seeking solutions to the challenges created by funding reductions.
“We want to build on the strengths of this budget,” said President McCallum. “But we will continue to advocate strongly for restored investments and full recognition of Métis priorities. Our citizens deserve programs and services that are reliable, culturally grounded, and adequately funded.”
