The family of a missing aboriginal woman in Nanaimo is welcoming the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Aboriginal women.
The Federal Government announced details Tuesday.
The mother of Lisa Young, who went missing in 2002, says it’s about time an inquiry happens and there are far too many unsolved cases of aboriginal women who are murdered or missing. What happened to Lisa remains a mystery and how the investigation unfolded is part of the reason why her mother believes a national inquiry into murdered and missing indigenous women is necessary.
“I believe the RCMP don’t respond as quickly when it is an aboriginal woman,” says Joanne Young.
