Mushkegowuk Council: National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People

Since 2010, May 5th has been pronounced the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People ( #MMIWG2S ). Also referred to as Red Dress Day, the day has been used to bring awareness to our missing and murdered women and two-spirit by wearing red.
For decades our Indigenous communities have felt the pain and sorrow of our loved ones who never made it home. The rate of #MMIWG2S continues to climb, and we must eliminate the risk by educating our communities about SAFETY.
Together let’s raise awareness by wearing RED and promoting #REDdress on Friday May 5th. Mushkegowuk Council acknowledges the importance of the #REDdress movement and we are glad to be part of it. We encourage you to:
- Make red dress art at home or work
- Hang a red dress or tie a red cloth/ribbon on your tree, yard or fence
- Reach out to your local agencies to learn more about MMIWG and their plans and actions in your community
- Promote #MMIWG2S #gonebutnotforgotten #NoMoreStolenSisters #REDdress on your social channels
