Namminiqsurniq Scholarship accepting applications

The Government of Nunavut’s Devolution Secretariat’s Namminiqsurniq Scholarship supports Nunavummiut and Nunavut Inuit pursuing education programs related to careers managing Nunavut’s lands, fresh waters, and resources.

The scholarship is open to Nunavut Inuit and other Nunavummiut who have been resident for at least one year. Preference will be given to Inuit applicants.

The scholarship is intended to increase workplace readiness and is therefore open – but not limited to – students in the following devolution-related programs:

  • Environmental Science, Environmental Practices, Earth Science, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Assessment, Economics (Resource), Environmental Policy, Geoscience and Political Science.

To apply, send the following to the Devolution Secretariat at Namminiqsurniq@gov.nu.ca:

  • A complete application form.
  • Confirmation of registration from the Office of the Registrar of the accredited post-secondary institution, including program and year of study.
  • Proof of enrollment in the Nunavut Agreement or proof of Nunavut residency.
  • A 250-to-500-word submission detailing the reason the applicant chose their program of study, the contribution they expect to make to GN devolution, and within their Nunavut community after completing the program, including when they expect to complete the program.

The deadline is June 30. Applicants will be notified of the selection committee’s decision by July 31. Applicants will be notified of the results of the review by email.
