Family members were present to witness this deeply meaningful cultural moment, which continues the Nation’s tradition of carving and ceremony on Tla-o-qui-aht homelands. Dozens of community members, resort staff and tourists were on hand for the unveiling of the pole. Carvers Gordon Dick and Kelly Robinson helped create the pole with the direction of master carver Joe Martin, who explained to the gathering the meaning behind each part of the pole.
