Nomination Period Opens for Kinngait by-election

Iqaluit, Nunavut – March 16, 2026 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) advises its members that a by-election for the Kinngait Community Director position on the QIA Board of Directors will be held in Kinngait on April 20, 2026. This position will fill the remaining term ending in December 2028.

The nomination period is now open and runs from March 16, 2026 to March 27 at 5:00pm local time.

Individuals interested in becoming a candidate must provide a criminal record check issued within the past three months. Potential candidates are encouraged to begin the process with the RCMP as soon as possible to ensure the document can be obtained before the nomination deadline.

To be eligible to vote, individuals must:

– Be Inuk enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement
– Be at least 16 years of age as of April 20, 2026
– Have regularly resided in Kinngait for at least one year.

Election Day
April 20, 2026 – 10:00am to 7:00pm local time
