Notice to Lax Kw’alaams Membership re: Ksi Lisims LNG Project

Press Release

On behalf of the elected and hereditary leadership of Lax Kw’alaams, I would like to communicate an important development to our members.

Following nation-to-nation dialogue with Nisga’a Nation, Lax Kw’alaams has agreed to support and consent to the Ksi Lisims LNG Project.

Indigenous leadership and participation in economic development is vital to the success of major projects. Ksi Lisims is a proposed floating LNG facility being developed on the north end of Pearse Island, and a major project in our region. I am excited to announce that Lax Kw’alaams members and businesses will play a large role in the success of Ksi Lisims.

Lax Kw’alaams has agreed to support Ksi Lisims for many reasons, including:

  • Ksi Lisims will be among the lowest carbon-intensity LNG facilities in the world when connected to the BC Hydro grid.
  • Lax Kw’alaams is satisfied the project aligns with stewardship and conservation of important species including Eulachan and Salmon.
  • Lax Kw’alaams present, and future generations will benefit economically for the life of the project should it proceed.

Please look out for further updates, as I have directed Lax Kw’alaams staff to organize a members-only information session about the project and the path forward.

Should members have any comments or questions, please feel free to send them along to communications@laxband.com,

Deputy Mayor Kelly Sampson on behalf of Mayor Garry Reece
