NHC targeting communities with the worst rent collection rates
The Nunavut Housing Corp. is coping with $27 million in unpaid rent and tenant damage bills, the agency said in its annual report, a situation that creates a “formidable challenge” for the territory’s public housing body.
The NHC’s 2014-15 annual report, tabled last month in the legislative assembly, shows that its rent collection rate dropped slightly in that period. In 2013-14, they collected 89.6 per cent of rents owed, and in 2014-15 they collected 88.3 per cent of rents owed.
But they are still owed more than $27 million in unpaid rents.
