Press Release
(January 27, 2026 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Foundation (NTF) is seeking submissions from Inuktut educators, authors, storytellers, and linguists to be considered for the Inuktuuqta! Inuktut Writing Prize Selection Committee.
“The Inuktuuqta! prize is an important tool for Nunavut Inuit to strengthen and maintain our languages,” said NTF Chair Paul Irngaut. “The selection committee has received high caliber Inuktuuqta submissions each year, and we invite Inuktut experts to consider participating on the committee for the 2026 Prize.”
Selection Committee members will be appointed by NTI. The appointed Committee members must be fair, impartial and consider all forms of Inuktut written works. The committee must also respect all Inuktut dialects and the dialect preferences of Inuktuuqta! applicants. The committee will be appointed for a 2-year term, with the possibility of extension if an appeals committee is required.
Expressions of Interest (EOI) may be submitted in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, or English, and must include information about the applicant’s fluency in Inuktut, experience with Inuktut work and describe what Inuktut language means to you. All EOIs must be submitted by email to inuktuuqta@tunngavik.com by 5:00pm ET on February 20, 2026.
For any inquiries or assistance to submit an EOI, please contact Arnaujuq Kowmuk, Assistant Director for Inuit Programs and Services by email at AKowmuk@tunngavik.com or by phone at (867) 975 – 7589, or toll-free at 1-888-646-0006.
