Elder Skip Dick, who died Friday at the age of 85, was an anchor for many Indigenous students arriving at Camosun College from across the province.
Elder Skip Dick, a co-founder of the Victoria Native Friendship Centre who dedicated more than half a century to supporting students and improving education, has died.
Ron Rice, executive director of the Victoria Native Friendship Centre, said the loss is profound, not only for Dick’s family, but for the organizations he served up until his death on Friday at the age of 85. “It’s very hard to think of his gift ending.”
Rice said Dick was an anchor for many Indigenous students arriving at Camosun College from across the province. “People would get off the bus from Prince George or wherever and say: ‘My dad told me to call you when I got here.’ ”
