Press Release
May 31, 2024
June is recognized as National Indigenous History Month in Canada. Formally declared in 2009, the month encourages Canadians of all walks of life to take time to learn about the history, heritage, resiliency and diversity of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
Each year, the City of Edmonton is proud to support and showcase local Indigenous organizations, groups and communities by sharing learning resources and a list of Indigenous-led events and activities offered throughout the month of June.
On Saturday, June 1, the City is hosting a launch event for the start of National Indigenous History Month, in partnership with the City’s Root for Trees program. Edmontonians are invited to join and celebrate Indigenous cultures by learning how Indigenous knowledge connects with nature, including the native species of trees and shrubs in Treaty Six Territory. The event will include a community tree planting, along with Indigenous-led entertainment and knowledge sharing.
Date: Saturday, June 1
Time: 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Location: 210 Dunvegan Road NW
