Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh Honoured with King Charles III Coronation Medal

Treaty #3 Anishinaabe Nation — Grand Council Treaty #3 is proud to announce that Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh, Grand Chief of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3, has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of his more than 40 years of dedicated and trusted leadership.

The Coronation Medal was presented to Ogichidaa Kavanaugh by Greg Rickford, Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, as a mark of honour and gratitude for his unwavering service and contributions to the Anishinaabe Nation and to Canada. The certificate accompanying the medal reads:

“By Command of THE KING the Coronation Medal is hereby conferred upon you in commemoration of His Majesty’s Coronation as King of Canada and in recognition of your valuable contribution to your country.”

Ogichidaa Kavanaugh has served the Anishinaabe Nation with vision, strength, and humility, consistently advocating for the rights and wellbeing of the people of Treaty #3. His leadership spans decades of committed work in areas such as health, governance, education, treaty rights protection, and Anishinaabe Inaakonigewin implementation. His recognition through this national honour reflects the deep respect held for him both within the Nation and across Canada.

“I am truly honoured to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal,” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh. “This recognition is not mine alone but belongs to all those who have walked with me throughout the years in service to our Nation. It reflects the strength, resilience, and unity of the Anishinaabe people of Treaty #3.”

The King Charles III Coronation Medal is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada and its communities. Ogichidaa Kavanaugh’s receipt of this medal honours not only his lifetime of leadership but also the enduring strength and presence of the Anishinaabe Nation.
