Ontario Native Women’s Association Launches Indigenous Women’s Magazine

Finally, an Indigenous Women’s magazine, a new empowering voice for Indigenous women. The Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural edition of their new biannual official publication “She is Wise” magazine.
The new magazine is a platform that will empower Indigenous women and actively support ONWA’s on-going work to end racism and violence as well as celebrating Indigenous women’s accomplishments and successes.
“The magazine framework centres on Indigenous Women’s leadership. It honours collective wisdom by reclaiming that which colonization had targeted, our inherent knowledge as leaders in our families and communities.” stated ONWA Executive Director Cora McGuire-Cyrette.
The contents of the inaugural magazine make this a compelling read. The cover story shares the extraordinary life of service of ONWA’s ‘Honourary Grandmother’ Dorothy Wynne inspiring a new generation of leadership.

- A Major Win for Gender Equality with final passage of Bill S-3,
- Reclaiming A Voice where Indigenous women speak out about their experience with sexual violence,
- Creating Safe Spaces ONWA’s report on improving services to survivors of human trafficking,

The Business of Giving Back tells Cheekbone Beauty Cosmetic founder Jenn Harper’s story and commitment to giving back to her community. Recently Harper appeared on Dragon’s Den where she turned down a Dragon to keep control of her business endeavour, a powerful decision from a young Indigenous woman on the move. Each new edition of the magazine will inform and entertain all Canadians.
The magazine will be officially launched in Thunder Bay on October 18th and be available in print and on-line at www.onwa.ca
