Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) 3rd Annual She Is Wise Conference Postponed
March 12, 2020
Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, ONWA is postponing this year’s 3rd Annual She Is Wise Conference that was scheduled to take place from March 16th-18th in Toronto, ON at the Marriott Eaton Centre.
As of March 11, coronavirus—the infection that causes the illness COVID-19—has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. “We felt the most responsible decision we could make is to postpone this year’s conference; it is the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. There is no higher priority for us than the health, safety and physical well-being of attendees and event staff” stated Cora-Lee McGuire-Cyrette, Executive Director, ONWA
“The She Is Wise conference is an eagerly anticipated event which celebrates Indigenous women’s leadership. As leaders in the communities we serve, ONWA feels strongly that we need to make this decision in order to put the safety of Indigenous women, their families, community partners and employees first. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to greeting you at She Is Wise once a new date is announced,” says ONWA President Dawn Lavell-Harvard.
In the meantime, ONWA will be issuing full registration refunds to participant’s, who can expect to receive an email within the next 1-2 days outlining the process for refunds.
