Peel District School Board Hosts Third Annual Powwow

Press Release

May 4, 2026

Maawnjiding Wiingushkeng Centre of Indigenous Excellence and Land‑Based Learning at the Peel District School Board is honoured to host its 3rd annual Powwow (Jingtamok) on Friday, May 29, 2026.

Over the past two years, this vibrant gathering has grown into a meaningful celebration for Indigenous and non‑Indigenous community members, welcoming thousands of PDSB students, staff, families, and visitors. It is a day grounded in culture, connection and learning.

This year’s Powwow will feature educational pavilions led by Indigenous partners for 10 selected Focus Schools, each offering teachings, demonstrations, and opportunities for students to learn. With more than 50 Indigenous vendors sharing their artistry, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, and food, the event promises to be a vibrant and memorable experience.

The Powwow circle will once again uplift dancers of all ages, including Indigenous PDSB students who were welcomed last year in a special “Coming Out” ceremony, proudly wearing the regalia they created themselves.

This year’s Powwow is already generating excitement across the community, anticipating another rich and memorable experience that continues to grow in meaning and impact each year.

Everyone is welcome to attend throughout the day. If your school was not selected one of the 10 Focus Schools to attend the day as a field trip, please know that the event remains open to all. Staff and students are encouraged to attend after the school day and to share this opportunity widely within their school communities and beyond.

If you are planning to attend, please review the FAQ page for important information, including Powwow protocols and visitor expectations.

Date: Friday, May 29, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Grand entry is scheduled for 12 p.m.
