Press Release
September 11, 2025
Nunavut Premier P.J. Akeeagok responded today to the federal government’s release of its first wave of major project announcements.
“I am optimistic about the path ahead for Nunavut’s priorities. While our projects were not included in the first round of announcements, it is encouraging to see the Arctic Security Corridor – Gray’s Bay Road and Port recognized as a candidate for the second round of announcements.
Together with Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated, we have been advancing four transformative initiatives: the Qikiqtarjuaq Deep-Sea Port, the Arctic Security Corridor, the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link, and the Iqaluit Hydroelectric Project. These are projects of national significance that will strengthen Arctic sovereignty, reduce Nunavut’s reliance on diesel, improve food and energy security, and create lasting opportunities for our communities.
Today’s announcements represent important progress for Canada, and I welcome the projects that were selected. Nunavut looks forward with determination and optimism to working with federal and Inuit partners to see our priorities advanced in the next wave.”
