Former mining executive Kristan Straub has deep family roots at Sudbury university

Kristan Straub, Laurentian University’s first Indigenous chancellor, is something of a walking representation of the Sudbury school’s tricultural mandate.

For those not familiar, the tricultural mandate honours Laurentian’s English, French and Indigenous roots.

Straub, a former mining executive who held the CEO title for Wyloo Canada, is a proud member of Henvey Inlet First Nation through his mother and a fluent French speaker. He’s also the son of a Swiss immigrant father.
