Progress made between B.C. and Treaty 8 First Nations

The Province is working with Treaty 8 First Nations to further reconciliation and improve government-to-government relations.
A number of agreements have been reached in recent months, including:
- A New Relationship and Reconciliation Agreement to guide the management of lands and resources within Saulteau First Nations treaty territory, and protect areas of traditional importance.
- Liquefied natural gas-related skills training agreements as part of B.C.’s Aboriginal Skills Training Development Fund.
- A Regional Strategic Environmental Assessment Agreement, the first endorsed project of the B.C.-First Nations LNG Environmental Stewardship Initiative.
- Pipeline benefits agreements with Doig and Halfway River First Nations, and with the First Nations Limited Partnership for proposed natural gas pipelines in Treaty 8 territory.
- Regional coal agreements that will create a Coal Land Reserve in the Northeast.
B.C. and Treaty 8 First Nations also work together through various agreements related to natural resource development, including collaborative management agreements and economic benefits agreements that provide annual revenue sharing from oil, gas, forestry and mining activities within traditional territories.
