Ontario Working to Drive Growth Plan Forward, Creating Jobs, Growing the Economy
Ministry of Northern Development and Mines
Ontario is taking a co-ordinated, long-term approach to creating jobs and growing a stronger, more diverse northern economy.
Ontario will host a Northern Leaders’ Forum on December 6, 2013 in Timmins that will bring together northern municipal, Aboriginal and community leaders as well as key government ministers to identify opportunities to advance the objectives of the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario.
Working with our partners to build on competitive advantages in the North will help deliver on the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario and is part of the government’s economic plan to invest in people, invest in infrastructure and support a dynamic and innovative business climate.
Quotes
“Our government first released the Growth Plan as a blueprint for job creation and economic development throughout Northern Ontario. Since its release, we have seen communities, organizations, and Aboriginal groups achieve some amazing things that have unequivocally proven my belief in the strength and resilience that we all share as northerners. I am very pleased that our government is able to fulfil the request of the Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors (NOLUM) and bring together key government ministers and community and aboriginal leaders from across Northern Ontario to renew momentum and drive forward the next phase of the Growth Plan.”
Michael Gravelle
Minister of Northern Development and Mines
“Timmins, like other northern municipalities, is focused on helping secure a more economically diverse future for our community. I look forward to welcoming the provincial ministers, Aboriginal leaders and municipal colleagues from across the North to the forum, and to taking the next steps in achieving our goals.”
Tom Laughren
Mayor of Timmins
