Public comment opens on Oceans Protection Plan – Ecolog.com

It’s taken almost one year, 10 months to be exact, but the federal government has finally launched public consultations on its Oceans Protection Plan.

The plan was first announced November 7, 2016 in a speech by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Vancouver. He promised a marine safety plan that would at least meet, and sometimes exceed, the best of international standards.

The federal government is promising more than 50 initiatives to protect Canada’s coasts, backed by a $1.5-billion commitment over 10 years. These initiatives are organized under the following topics:
