QEC Announces the Recipients of the 17th Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship

Press Release

Each year, Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) awards two $5,000 scholarships to two exceptional Nunavut students enrolled in post-secondary education programs in Canada. One of the two scholarships is reserved for a student in engineering, a field of strategic importance to QEC, and vital to the territory’s continued development. QEC is proud to announce the recipients of the 17th Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier Scholarship: Cassidy Devereaux of Iqaluit and Sabrina Tanuyak of Chesterfield Inlet.

Cassidy is in her third year of Bioresource Engineering at McGill University, where she focuses on environmental innovation. She currently co-leads an oil spill remediation research project and aims to apply her skills in sustainable design within Nunavut.

Sabrina is pursuing a double major in Philosophy and Criminology at Saint Mary’s University. She plans to attend law school and return to Nunavut and serve her community as a proud Inuk lawyer.

This scholarship honours the legacy of Laura Ulluriaq Gauthier, a respected community leader who contributed to the creation of a locally controlled electrical utility in Nunavut. QEC continues to invest in students who demonstrate not only academic excellence, but a passion for contributing to Nunavut’s success.
