Rebekah Uqi Williams Social Work Scholarship

The Department of Family Services is now accepting applications for the Rebekah Uqi Williams Scholarship, designed for Nunavummiut pursuing careers in social work, counseling, or psychology.

This scholarship serves to honour the legacy of Ms. Williams by supporting the educational goals of future social workers.

Five grants of up to $10,000 each are available to help dedicated students cover their education expenses.

Ms. Williams started her public service career as a nurse in her home community, Arctic Bay. She eventually shifted into social work, motivated by a desire to address wider social issues impacting the well-being of Inuit. Her professional trajectory advanced her to roles as Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Member of the National Parole Board of Canada, and Deputy Commissioner of Nunavut.
