Resource Works mourns with Tumbler Ridge

Press Release

February 11, 2026

An unimaginable tragedy for a tight-knit community in a special part of our province.

To our readers in Northeast B.C., and especially in Tumbler Ridge, we are heartbroken.

Police say nine people were killed and at least 25 others were injured in shootings at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a nearby home on Tuesday. The suspect was also found dead.

Resource Works has been fortunate, over the years, to spend time across Northeast B.C., from Fort St. John and Dawson Creek to Fort Nelson and smaller communities in between. Our team has sat at kitchen tables, toured worksites, met leadership, and listened to people who keep this region running.

That is why this tragedy feels so personal, even from a distance. The Northeast is home to tight-knit communities where people know each other, coach each other’s kids, work side by side, and show up when it counts. Tumbler Ridge’s own mayor has described the community as “one big family,” and that rings true to anyone who has spent time there.

In moments like this, there are no adequate words, only the duty to speak plainly: we grieve with you. We extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and we are holding close those who are injured, those who witnessed what happened, and the teachers, school staff, first responders, and health-care workers carrying the immediate weight of this day.

The coming days will be difficult, and the questions will feel endless. For now, we hope the community is surrounded by practical support, including the mental-health and grief resources local leaders have said will be needed on the ground.

Northeast B.C. is often asked to carry big responsibilities for the province, from energy and mining to forestry and powering homes. But today is about people, and a community in mourning.

Resource Works is grieving with Tumbler Ridge. We will honour the victims by remembering them, by respecting the community’s privacy, and by standing with Northeast B.C. in the days ahead.
