Restricted Deer Hunt in Pinery Provincial Park

Ontario Honours Treaty Rights of the Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation

Pinery Provincial Park will be closed to the public from December 7-11, 2015, for a traditional Aboriginal deer hunt. The hunt will take place daily from one half-hour before sunrise until noon each day.

Aboriginal hunters will be using rifles and archery equipment for the hunt and will be following agreed-upon safety protocol and harvesting techniques.

Aboriginal hunting activities have taken place at this park in the past. Park staff will be monitoring access points to the park during the hunt.

  • Hunting is one of the traditional activities of Aboriginal peoples, which is recognized through their Aboriginal and treaty rights.
