Roddickton RCMP charges suspected impaired driver for refusing to provide sample

Press Release

June 18, 2026

From: Newfoundland and Labrador RCMP

RCMP officers in Roddickton arrested a 64-year-old woman on Saturday afternoon after responding to a call about a possible drug-impaired driver.

On June 13, shortly after 2:00 p.m., Roddickton RCMP responded to a report of a driver that appeared to be using cannabis inside a vehicle parked outside a building on Majors Street. Police located the vehicle and observed signs of cannabis use, and the driver — a 64-year-old woman — was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle located paraphernalia consistent with cannabis use.

The woman was provided with a demand for a blood sample to confirm impairment by drugs, and declined to do so. She was charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand, and released from custody to appear in court in August 2026. In addition, her driver’s licence was suspended.

Refusing to comply with a demand issued by police as part of an impaired operation investigation is a criminal offence. If convicted, this offence carries the same penalties as a charge of impaired operation.

Impaired drivers place themselves and all others who share the roadway at an unacceptable risk of serious injury or death. If you suspect a driver is operating a vehicle while impaired, please call 911 immediately.
