Safety Enhancements for Norman Wells Airport

Investing in the Northwest Territories

August 6, 2014, 2014 – Norman Wells, Northwest Territories – Transport Canada

The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing $1,479,428 for rehabilitation of runway lighting at the Norman Wells Airport.

These improvements will provide for continued airfield visibility and safe runways for flight crews, passengers, and airport employees.

Funding for this work comes from Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

• To date, through ACAP, the Norman Wells Airport has received over $8.4 million in funding for two safety projects, including today’s announcement.
• The previous project was the rehabilitation of airside pavement.
• Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $631 million for 776 projects at 174 airports across the country.
