Today, Dustin Perillat, previously a Moose Jaw Warrior defenseman, was welcomed home to Saskatoon as a Saskatoon Blade in front of St. Mary’s elementary students. Perillat, a Yellow Quill First Nation member, played two seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors before returning home to Saskatoon.
“I can’t wait to get into the community with the kids and eventually back onto the ice and doing what I do best,” Dustin told the Star Phoenix.
“It is important for a lot of these kids (to meet Perillat) because they know Dustin was just like them,” Chief Felix Thomas told the Star Phoenix. “It gives them hope that not only is it possible, but that it’s probable. That is the big thing with role models.” Tribal Chief Felix Thomas further commented that Dustin, like them, grew up and attended school on Saskatoon’s west side.

With more than a 70 per cent First Nations student enrollment from the seven member STC communities, St. Mary’s was ideal to bring positive messaging. Perillat is the first STC member to play for the Blades.
The ceremony was part of STC’s ongoing partnership with the Saskatoon Blades and St. Mary’s School.
