SSHRC launches new pilot funding opportunity: Policy Innovation Partnership Grants

Press Release

Inaugural competition targets research related to boosting Canada’s productivity

February 19, 2025 – The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is launching a pilot program aimed at funding long-term, high-impact research in key areas that are of importance to Canada’s future.

Valued at $6 million over 15 years, the inaugural Policy Innovation Partnership Grants competition will target research related to boosting Canada’s productivity and that has the potential to inform and shape public policy in this area. Productivity is foundational to a country’s long-term economic growth and prosperity, and includes elements related to technology adoption, supply chain management and workforce skills gaps, among others. When productivity is growing rapidly, it benefits businesses, workers and consumers alike.

If successful, the pilot funding opportunity will pave the way for future, periodic competitions. Each competition would focus on a different priority area in social sciences and humanities where long-term research is well positioned to make a significant impact on the lives of Canadians. One grant will be awarded in this inaugural competition.

For full details about the application process and eligibility requirements, consult the funding opportunity description.
