Statement from Premier Heather Stefanson and Indigenous Reconciliation and Northern Relations Minister Eileen Clarke on National Indigenous Peoples Day

Press Release

June 21, 2023

Today, the Manitoba government encourages all Manitobans to join us in honouring and acknowledging June 21 as National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada. Our government recognizes the important role and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in shaping our province and celebrates the rich and vibrant Indigenous traditions and cultures in Manitoba and across Canada.

It is also a day to reflect on our shared commitment to truth and reconciliation and take the opportunity to learn and reflect on the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and Manitoba. Our government reaffirms its dedication to advancing truth and reconciliation through collaborative partnerships and renewed, meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples throughout Manitoba.

We encourage all Manitobans to participate in events taking place today and throughout the week across the province to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day.
