Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:
“The Government of Yukon welcomes Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new cabinet and looks forward to working together to move key priorities forward for the Yukon and for Canada as a whole.
“The appointments of Northwest Territories MP Rebecca Alty as Minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations, Abitibi–Baie-James–Nunavik–Eeyou MP Mandy Gull-Masty as Minister of Indigenous Services and Churchill–Keewatinook Aski MP Rebecca Chartrand as Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs and Minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency are incredibly encouraging. These appointments send a strong signal that northern and Indigenous voices will have meaningful influence at the federal decision-making table.
“We look forward to working in partnership with this new team on the issues that matter most to Yukoners, including bail reform, community safety, housing, internal trade and Arctic security. These are areas where coordinated federal-territorial leadership is essential.
“The North needs to be at the heart of national conversations on sovereignty and security – this is something I hear loud and clear from friends, family, colleagues and constituents across the Yukon and beyond. These are not abstract issues for us; they are lived realities. It is reassuring to see ministers appointed who understand that perspective and are ready to work with us on the ground.
“There is important work ahead. We are committed to doing our part and look forward to strong partnerships with federal ministers who are ready to deliver for northerners and for all Canadians.”
