Press Release
Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg, MB – With heavy hearts, we acknowledge the confirmation that the remains of Morgan Beatrice Harris of Long Plain First Nation have been recovered at Prairie Green Landfill. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones and nation as they face this unimaginable loss.
This search has always been about love—honouring Morgan, Marcedes, Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe (Buffalo Woman), Rebecca Contois, and all families still waiting for their loved ones to be brought home. No family should have to search in this way, yet their loved ones stood firm in their truth and refused to be silenced. It is through their love and determination that Morgan has been found.
We lift up the families in our hearts and hold space for their grief. This is their time and we stand beside them in whatever way they need, as the Late Grand Chief Cathy Merrick did.
The family’s loved one was recovered through a humanitarian search and recovery mission that came at the request of her family and Marcedes Myran’s family. Their voices led this search. Their love brought us here.
We ask that everyone respect the privacy of Morgan’s family during this time. Further updates will come as facts are confirmed.
