Statement: Investigation into the death of a baby

The Department of Health released the following statement:

“In keeping with the Department of Health’s protocols, we are following the appropriate steps to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a baby in Gjoa Haven.

The baby’s death was duly reported as a critical incident, as laid out in the Community Health Nursing Administration Manual and an investigation was begun immediately following the incident.

We cannot comment on the specifics of this matter, as there is an ongoing investigation. The Department of Health takes this matter very seriously and is working with all involved to determine what happened. The health, safety and well-being of all Nunavummiut are always our priority.”
