Statement on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following statement was issued today by Premier Blaine Higgs to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:

New Brunswickers join their fellow Canadians in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30. This is a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as survivors, their families and communities.

Each of us has a role to play if we want to advance reconciliation. One way our government continues to do this is by working to implement the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We launched a website in June 2022 to track our progress, and I encourage everyone to visit www.gnb.ca/trc to learn more.

We recognize our responsibility to work toward building trust and creating mutually successful relationships with Indigenous peoples to foster a better, more inclusive province.

Working together, we can do this not just on Sept. 30, but every single day.
