Statement: Prime Minster letting Canadians down by maintaining flawed NEB process

19 January 2016 (Vancouver) – With the National Energy Board resuming the hearing of oral arguments on Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline today in Burnaby, Melina Laboucan-Massimo, a Greenpeace Climate and Energy campaigner, said:

“Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said during the election campaign the Liberals would overhaul the discredited NEB process, yet it’s business as usual for Harper’s energy board. Justin Trudeau needs to stop this process and turn this pipeline down once and for all because it is incompatible with his climate goals and the interests of the people of British Columbia and the country.

“Kinder Morgan’s tar sands pipeline would endanger thousands of jobs, Canada’s chance to meet its global climate obligations as well as threaten coastal communities with a spill that cannot be cleaned up. This pipeline also does not have the support of First Nations, local governments, the provincial government or the people of B.C. Prime Minister Trudeau has to reject this pipeline. It’s time to build a 100% renewable energy future and harness the tremendous potential Canada has to offer.”
