Students Conclude Work on 2025-26 Post-Secondary Student Council

The 2025-26 Saskatchewan Post-Secondary Student Council has wrapped up its third year, bringing together 24 students from across the province.

Students were able to share their experiences and provide insight into key areas of post-secondary education, including access and accessibility, the value of post-secondary education and the future of post-secondary education.

“The student council continues to be an invaluable forum for hearing directly from learners about what supports their success and where we can do better,” Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. “Each member brings a unique perspective shaped by their own academic journey, and their contributions help strengthen the post-secondary system for future students. I’m grateful for their commitment and the thoughtful advice they have shared throughout the year.”

The council also allows students to connect with other like-minded individuals from post-secondary institutions across the province. Council members range widely in age, field of study, academic background and identity.

“As someone pursuing an academic career, I believe it is important to seek opportunities that allow me to understand the various factors shaping post-secondary education,” council member and University of Regina student Elise Melanson said. “My time with the council gave me a unique, first-hand experience that developed my understanding of the relationship between post-secondary institutions and the provincial government. I appreciated the opportunity to connect with students from across the province, meet Advanced Education leadership, and advocate for valuable change.”

Council members met four times over the academic year where they provided feedback used to inform ministry initiatives and ongoing engagement with post-secondary partners.

“Serving on the student council was a rewarding experience and I’m glad I could help provide feedback that will have a positive impact on future students,” council member and Saskatchewan Polytechnic student Clayton Martin said. “One of my favorite aspects was hearing the different perspectives and ideas from the other members of the council.”

Key insights from the council’s discussions will support the Ministry of Advanced Education’s policy development and collaboration with institutions in the year ahead. Discussion takeaways from the council meetings are also shared with post-secondary institutions and sector partners.
