FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 12/06/2014

The Circle on Philanthropy and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada releases first report
on the Aboriginal funding economy in Canada

Aboriginal Philanthropy Research: paving a way to resolution and true reconciliation.

With the resurgence of information on Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s 2008 apology for Indian Residential Schools and the growing discussion on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Idle No More and, most importantly, The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, we know that Canadians are seeking a deeper and better understanding of ways to promote and foster positive change within our society.

Measuring the Circle: Emerging Trends in Philanthropy for First Nations, Métis and Inuit Communities in Canada is the first report of its kind in Canada. It analyzes key findings of The Circle’s three-part research initiative on the Aboriginal Funding Economy in Canada. The report examines philanthropic endeavors, while exploring key questions and issues pertaining to the scope and trends of future opportunities and research.

We invite the media to attend the official public launch of the report where you will hear from Stephen Couchman, Mario R. Gravelle and Marilyn Struthers and enjoy some food and refreshments.

About The Circle: open network to promote giving, sharing, and philanthropy in Aboriginal communities across the country. We connect with and support the empowerment of First Nations, Inuit and Métis nations, communities, and individuals in building a stronger, healthier future
