Building permits, January 2021
January rang in the new year with a record high total value of building permits issued, rising 8.2% to $9.9 billion and surpassing the previous record of $9.6 billion set in April 2019. These gains were driven primarily by the residential sector.
Cancer surgery in Canada, two decades of data
Over 220,000 new cancer cases are diagnosed annually in Canada, with breast, lung, prostate and colorectal cancers accounting for close to half of these diagnoses. Cancer outcomes are dependent on cancer type, stage at diagnosis and treatment. They may also vary in part because of differences in access to health care and screening programs, treatment options and follow-up care.
Survey of Non-Bank Mortgage Lenders, third quarter 2020
The housing market continued to grow in the third quarter, with low mortgage interest rates and an increase in the country’s gross domestic product. When compared with the same quarter a year earlier, the number of residential mortgage loans extended by non-bank lenders increased by 40.7% in the third quarter of 2020. Conversely, the number of residential mortgage deferrals and residential mortgages in arrears over 90 days both decreased in the third quarter, relative to the second quarter.
Study: Co-operatives in Canada
A non-financial co-operative is a corporation that is legally incorporated under specific federal, provincial or territorial co-operative acts and that is owned by an association of people seeking to satisfy common needs, such as access to products or services, sale of products or services, or employment. Two-thirds (67.3%) of active non-financial co-operatives are consumer co-operatives, 15.8% are producer co-operatives, 9.1% are multi-stakeholder co-operatives, 6.5% are worker co-operatives, and 1.3% are federations.
